Reflection 2

Reflection 2

How you would manage if your MST did not take such an active role in the class?  How do you think it would change what your practice in the lesson and why?  Can you provide an example where her (and the AMT) intervention affected your lesson – positively or negatively?

In this Reflection I will write about my literacy lesson I did last week on the 11th of Oct, Wednesday. My lesson was about letter Ss and the body parts. I started the lesson by listening to a song about All about Me. And then I moved on to a shared reading with the students and playing with words activity. After the reading activity I introduced the letter of the week lesson to the students and played the song of sound that the students sing almost every day. And then I made a game called mystery bag game where the student will come and pick one object out of the bag and name it, they really enjoyed the activity because they don’t know what’s coming from the bag. Later on I made the students play an activity about looking for the right letter from the board where each two students will play against each other and who finds the letter first gets a point. Before going to the centers I gave the students a basket that has colored badges where every student will pick his group color that they already know and before moving to the centers I model the activity to them and then ask each group to move to their tables.
During the lesson my MST and t5he AMT plays a big role since they are watching the students for me and try to manage their behavior sometimes during my lesson. I think if my MST did not take an active role like she does usually I would focus more on using behavior charts with the students or I would use different materials to get their attention whenever I lose it from them. it will make a big change if the MST was not involved because some students might pay attention to other thing or will lost the track like when it happened during the shared reading time in this lesson and the MST helped the student to find the correct page. I think that the MST and AMT being around in the classroom is helpful sometimes because in the last few lessons I had a problem with a student called Hamad. Hamad always act differently and its hard to manage his behavior sometimes so the AMT helped me managing his behavior during the lesson and tried to stop him from distracting other students with his behavior.

Reflective Blog

My Reflection

The children in the activity you lead (on the carpet) require your constant intervention to ensure they are engaged and can do the task.   For what reasons can this be problematic?  How could you plan it differently?

During my lesson I gave the students an activity where I distributed number flash card on the carpet and asked each one of the students to show me a number. Some of the student found the activity a little hard and some of them didn’t actually enjoyed the activity I had to engage the students by praising them and giving them positive reinforcement to get other students to get excited and participate in the activity. Many of them wanted to play and some didn’t actually understood what are they required to do. I think this kind of activities are not engaging the students enough and it won’t get them into thinking and being focused in the activity.

For my next lesson I  will make sure to make the activities more engaging by make it a bit challenging to the students, for an example I will put the students in two teams and they will challenge each other and whoever gets the right answer will get a point. Also I can flip the cards and let the students choose any of the cards and say what number is this. And in addition I can add the Arabic numbers to make it very challenging to them and that will engage them to participate and wanting to be a part of the game. Moreover next time I will make sure that I have activities for all of the different level and abilities that I have in the classroom to let all of the students get a turn and participate more during the carpet time and the whole group activities.

Introduction

Welcome to my internship blog

In my internship blog, i will post and publish my reflective journal that i will be writing during my time in Al Zayedya KG.

First of all, my action research project topic is Learning Through Activities in KG classes in the UAE. i choose this topic for some reasons  Firstly, learning through activities has a lot of benefits for students and i believe that different children have different abilities and most of them can easily learn through activities. Secondly, i think that learning through activities can help students to develop many skills like emotional, cognitive, physical and social. Thirdly, as a teacher i believe that from the activities i can evaluate the students' progress in learning and knowledge so easily and assess their levels.

My professional development plan (PDP) goals:

1- Implement and plan variety of techniques and strategies to create more interesting and varied activities.

2- Manage the transition between the activities and teach the students a certain routine or rules that they have to follow.

3-  To model and demonstrate activities

4-  Improve classroom management during centers time with SEN students

5- Monitoring assessment with low ability or quiet students in the classroom.
